{"id":34142,"date":"2021-10-22T19:04:57","date_gmt":"2021-10-22T19:04:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalcommunities.org\/?post_type=country&#038;p=34142"},"modified":"2023-11-14T22:21:06","modified_gmt":"2023-11-14T22:21:06","slug":"turkey","status":"publish","type":"country","link":"https:\/\/globalcommunities.org\/country\/turkey\/","title":{"rendered":"T\u00fcrkiye"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>\n\t\tResponse to Devastating Earthquake in Southern T\u00fcrkiye\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>On February 6, 2023, magnitude 7.8 and 7.6 earthquakes struck southern T\u00fcrkiye and northern Syria, causing widespread destruction across 91,000 square miles and affecting the 23 million people who call that region home. Global Communities immediately activated our teams on the ground to prepare a response while also supporting the safety of our staff and their families.<\/p>\n<p>In T\u00fcrkiye, the earthquakes and thousands of resulting aftershocks left more than 2 million people displaced, and a death toll of more than 50,000. The Government of T\u00fcrkiye reported more than 520,000 collapsed or heavily damaged buildings, which caused more than 1 million people to live in government shelters and temporary sites.
